KALAMAZOO, Mich. - First National Bank of Michigan is pleased to announce the promotion of Daniel Bitzer to President and CEO

Dan Bitzer

Bitzer assumed responsibilities as President and CEO of First National Bank of Michigan effective January 1, 2017. He joined the bank in December 2011 as Grand Rapids Market President, after more than three decades in the commercial banking business in West Michigan. Bitzer was promoted to Executive Vice President and Senior Lender in July 2014 after successfully leading the bank’s expansion into the Grand Rapids market. In December 2015, he was named president of the bank, where he oversaw the activities of all locations, including operations in the downtown Kalamazoo headquarters and its branches in Portage, West Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and the Holland LPO.

First National Bank of Michigan’s strategic development designed by Bitzer and his leadership team is best summed up in the company’s credo, “Together, We are First.”
Valuing all customers large and small, along with consistent investment in West Michigan, is what sets First National Bank of Michigan apart from its competitors.

“Dan’s promotion to President and CEO reflects his proven performance and follows the board-approved management succession plan. I have tremendous confidence in his leadership skills and trust he will continue the bank’s legacy of success,” said Larry Lueth, Co-Chairman, First National Bank of Michigan. Jefra Groendyk will remain Senior Lender and Market President for the Grand Rapids location, and John M. Schreuder will serve as Senior Executive and Co-Chairman.

Bitzer earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Ferris State University and a Master of Business Administration in economics from Western Michigan University. Deeply involved in the community, he has served in numerous volunteer capacities. Currently, Bitzer serves on the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival Board of Trustees and Commissioning Committee for the USS Gerald R. Ford CVN 78. He is also an active member of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids and the Elks Lodge.

"Becoming President and CEO of First National Bank of Michigan is a great honor,” he said. “I look forward to building upon our longstanding investment in the community and commitment to delivering unmatched customer service.”
