Financial Management Consulting Group (FMCG) is a 22-year-old firm based in Russell Springs, Ky., and an independent consulting firm that specializes in banking analyzation performance.
Through their analysis, FMCG has awarded First National Bank of Michigan with its top overall ranking among 123 commercial banks based in Michigan for the first quarter of 2010.
• This rating was determined by FMCG using eight criteria to rank banks' performance: Assessments of non-interest income, efficiency, asset quality, return on equity and ratio of non-performing assets to equity and reserves.
• First National, also received high rankings in return on assets, asset quality and ratio of non-performing assets to equity.
• Data that FMCG uses to compile its performance reports are taken from the call reports that commercial banks submit each quarter to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The FDIC’s website, http://www.FDIC.gov, can be used to check the performance of any commercial bank.
Asset quality can be a measure of a bank’s health, particularly in a troubled economy in which many borrowers have had difficulty repaying loans.
“Having a very strong asset quality ratio demonstrates that our borrowers are paying their loans as agreed, and indicates they are in a healthy enough position to do so. We feel that it is a demonstration of the economy being stronger in Kalamazoo and in southwestern Michigan – than in many other parts of the state.” – John M. Schreuder, Chairman&CEO/FNBM
